F.A.Q.

What else can we tell you about EMS?

  • How quickly will I see results?
Everyone is different, but most of our clients feel the burn after their first session - and some even see small differences in their muscle tone! Typically after four sessions, you'll notice physical changes to your body, and after six, others will notice too. For those looking to build core strength or relieve back pain, relief typically comes after just 1-2 workouts. You can definitely expect to feel muscle fatigue and/or soreness after your first session. Don't worry, your body will adapt to EMS with time and you'll recover faster after each session (but we promise you'll keep feeling it and seeing results week after week!)
  • Is EMS safe?
Completely. EMS has been around for decades, and muscle stimulation technology is used widely in rehabilitation and muscle recovery. The Studio EMS suits use a safe and proven technology that's FDA approved for working out. All of our trainers are certified in EMS and will make sure you get a workout that's both safe and challenging - but also, make sure to disclose any injuries and conditions to your trainer prior to working out. And as always, talk to your doctor if you have any health concerns. Recovery is also super important - remember to rest your muscles and stay hydrated following your session. You should also avoid strength training and deep-tissue massages for 48 hours after your first few EMS workouts.
  • What actually is EMS?
EMS stands for Electrical Muscle Stimulation. Our trainers strap you into FDA-approved suits with safe, low-frequency currents that stimulate your muscles and help them contract as you move. At first it feels like a full body tingle and works up into a stronger impulse that never hurts, the end result is real-life abs. This technology helps you reach your specific fitness goals, including building muscle strength, fat loss, and overall toning with just 20-minute sessions, 1-3x a week. Yep, that's it. EMS is for everyone - if you can train safely in the gym, you can train safely with EMS. While many of our clients are already in shape and looking for a more efficient way to tone, you don't need to be a certified gym rat to train successfully with us. In fact, no prior workout experience is necessary.
  • What does EMS feel like?
EMS can feel intense, especially the first time, but it's never painful. Your trainer will start your suit on the lowest setting, slowly adjusting each body part to make sure you feel challenged but comfortable. You'll feel a slight tingle that will build to a pulse as your muscles start to contract — you'll get used to it! The suit contracts your muscles for a few seconds, then pauses for a few seconds of rest. And no need to worry about your skin - the base layer worn under your suit fully protects it from touching the electrodes.
  • What types of movements will I do?
Your trainer will work with you to establish your personal fitness goals and areas of focus and then design a custom program from there. We offer both Pilates and functional strength-style workouts that deliver full-body contractions in every move. Each session consists of about 15-20 compound standing and mat movements that change weekly, so you'll never get bored. We strongly believe workouts don't have to be complicated to be effective - a simple series with great form is enough to reach muscle fatigue. Trust us, our workouts are tougher than they look.
